Lovely hotel in beautiful mountains. It was a special treat to stay there.

The Spa did not use the full time allotted for my treatment. The girl doing the treatment used at least 10min of time trying to sell her products.

Beautiful views and scenery
Would be nice to have a gymnasium on the premises.

the setting of the hotel in the countryside with beautiful mountain views.
We could hear the people in the rooms next to us all the time. The service from the staff at breakfast was poor - we had to constantly ask to be served.

The views are spectacular and it is a great location.
The hotel seems to need to be refurbished - the finishes in the room we stayed in looked tatered and not to the level of a 5 star establishment. The noise levels are also very high. I'm not sure if it was the particular room we stayed in as it had a thatch roof, but you could hear every single noise from outside as well as hear the people staying in the room next to ours. The insulation also seems to be poor as it felt like the wind was blowing through the room, probably also due to the thatch.

The best part is the location, the surrounding vistas are breathtaking if you get the right room. We had room 20. Breakfast included was a 4 out of 5.
Only drawbacks were old fashion television sets with limited channel selection (8). Also, they charge for Wifi ($30 US daily) which is gouging. They need to provide it as a service for guests without charge as most contemporary hotels in South Africa do.

Peace and quiet.
"curtains" in the room did not close properly, meaning it was light when the sun came up. Not the greatest thing for the one day a year I take off to sleep in.

Beautiful location, staff very friendly and helpful
Too few channels available to tv, sounds from room nextdoor clearly audible because of opening in the wall

nice room
Well overpriced hotel (like any other hotel and restaurant in Franschhoek) that does not at all give value for the steep price paid !!! very small and smelly bathroom (Deluxe room, or at least supposed to be) we called them and they said they don't have rooms although on bboking.com there were available rooms, and in a much lower price (so clearly we ordered through booking) would NOT recommend

Setting and facilities.
While a good experience, things weren't as good as they should have been. Some staff was inattentive. Nobody received us at breakfast to show us to a table and a number of the best tables weren't readied again after previous guests finished. We weren't brought menus and only later saw that other guests were ordering from them. The kippers served in the buffet were off. I alerted a staff member to it, but she said this is how kippers smell (I know very well how kippers should smell and this wasn't it). Most disturbing for us was that my wife’s sunglasses disappeared from our room. The staff said they looked and claimed that nothing has ever gone missing from the hotel before. However, still no sunglasses...

Friendly staff, posh without being snooty.
Cooked breakfast was pretty cold from buffet - i think a 5* hotel should do cooked breakfast to order...

When I made my booking through you I specified that we could not use stairs. The confirmation of my booking from you clearly stated "no stairs". Imagine our reaction when we found that there were no room that could be reached without climbing stairs! The hotel kindly upgraded us to a chalet at the Spa and did not charge us extra. (There were still a few stairs to negotiate - and we had help to do that and a gold cart with carried us to and from I suggest that you look more closely at your booking requests in future. The drivers of the golf cart were excellent and it cost us quite a sum extra to tip them according to the effort and friendliness they put in to helping us.
